Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Canada Graduate Scholarship - Master's Program

The objective of the Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master’s (CGS-M) program is to help develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

  • Value and duration

    $17,500 for 12 months, non-renewable

  • Quotas
    • Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) – one
    • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) – five
    • Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) – five
  • Deadline
    Eligible student are required to submit their application via the Research Portal by December 1 at 8 p.m. If the deadline falls on a weekend, applications must be submitted by the following business day before 8 p.m. (EST).
  • Applying to a graduate program
    Prospective students who are interested in holding their tri-agency scholarship at Ontario Tech University must apply for admission into a graduate program by February 1, 2023. Applicants are not eligible to receive or accept a CGS-M offer from a university where they are not enrolled or have not applied for admission to an eligible program of study.
  • Confirm eligibility

    Canadian citizens and permanent residents or a Protected Person under subsection 95 (2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) as of the application deadline date are eligible to be considered for a CGS-M scholarship.

    The eligibility criteria and the evaluation process are available on the CGS-M website.

  • How to apply

    Applicants must submit their application through the tri-agency portal (Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)) and identify up to three institutions where they would like their application to be considered. The scholarship is not portable.

    Transcripts

    Students applying for the CGS-M scholarship are required to upload their official post-secondary transcripts to their application in the online application portal. Many institutions are experiencing delays in producing transcripts. Submit your transcript requests early in order to meet the submission deadline.

    Reference letters

    • You must contact two potential referees as soon as possible and no later than three weeks prior to the application deadline.
    • You must provide potential referees with the CGS-M selection criteria.
  • Next steps

    All application files will be accepted, reviewed and processed by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Eligible applications are reviewed first by a Faculty Selection Committee and then by a University Selection Committee. 

    Results will be released on April 1, 2024.
