June workshops:

LinkedIn/Job Searching - Thursday, June 22 from 1 to 2 p.m.

In this workshop, you will learn the benefits of a LinkedIn profile, the best ways to start, create, edit or update your profile, and how to connect with recruiters and potential employers on the world’s largest recruitment website!

July workshops:

Self-Care and Mindfulness - Tuesday, July 11 from 1 to 2 p.m.

You will learn about the expanding body of research related to mindfulness, have the opportunity to practice mindfulness techniques and engage in a discussion about your personal experience and perspectives on how you might be able to incorporate mindfulness in your personal and professional life. 

Organizing your Literature Search with EndNote - Thursday, July 27 from 12 to 1 p.m.

In this workshop you will use a citation manager to save references and create accurate in-text references and bibliographies in Word. Please come to the session with EndNote installedEndNote is available from Software Support. You will learn the benefits of using a citation manager to organize articles and other research sources for your literature review.

SGPS Updates

  • The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is underway. The internal deadline for applications to the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) is Friday, July 28, 2023 (12 noon). Full details on the application requirements and process can be found on the SGPS website.

  • The IDRC International Doctoral Research Awards (IDRA) call for applications is now open. There are 24 awards of up to CA$20,000 each. Visit the IDRC-IDRA website to learn more. Application deadline is Monday, July 17, 2023.

  • SHARCNET Compute Ontario Summer School offers a comprehensive curriculum packed with nearly 30 courses for researchers, students, and staff. Sessions are offered in two parallel streams which cover a wide range of topics including Advanced Research Computing (ARC), High Performance Computing (HPC), and Research Data Management (RDM) and are available at introductory to advanced levels. Student Life

  • Calling all new grads! We know looking for jobs can be challenging and overwhelming. That’s why we’ve created iLaunch, a conference for new grads designed to help you launch into the next phase of your career. Get job prep ready and attend iLaunch on Wednesday, June 14 for a series of informational workshops, to learn practical work-readiness skills, and to meet and network with employers! Learn more and register.

  • Indigenous Education and Cultural Services will be hosting a variety of programming and educational opportunities throughout the month of June in honour of National Indigenous History Month. June is a month to engage in learning about truth and history from our Indigenous communities, nations and folks from across Turtle Island. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. Learn more and register.
  • The Employment Readiness Program, running Thursdays from June 29 to August 3, is a series of workshops designed to teach students practical job readiness skills and skills for navigating the workplace with success. Students who attend the workshop series will have access to additional one-on-one peer support with an Employment Peer Coach who can help address career-related concerns. Learn more and register.
  • The Career Centre has a variety of workshops that are designed to help students who are job searching, going to work for the first time, or entering a new workplace. Learn more and register for a workshop today!

  • Recovery College is a collaboration between Ontario Tech University and Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. The two courses that will be held over the Spring/Summer semester are Let’s Act on It: Managing Stress and Wellness through Words: Book Club. To view the course descriptions and register, visit the mental health groups web page.

  • Could you use a bit of stretch-and-unwind at the end of each week? Yoga is an ancient and evidence-based practice that can help you to unwind your nervous system. Sessions will be held virtually through the spring/summer semester on Fridays from May 26 to August 18 from 1:15 to 2 p.m. To derive the greatest benefit from this practice, you will need a quiet space and a yoga mat. Register to attend!

  • Remember to review your tuition balance on MyOntarioTech and tuition deadline dates on the SGPS website. The Spring/Summer OSAP extension form is still available on MyOntarioTech for OSAP Graduate Students.
