July Grad Pro Skill workshops: 

Organizing your Literature Search with EndNote - Thursday, July 27 from 12 to 1 p.m.

In this workshop you will use a citation manager to save references and create accurate in-text references and bibliographies in Word. Please come to the session with EndNote installed. EndNote is available from Software Support. You will learn the benefits of using a citation manager to organize articles and other research sources for your literature review.

SGPS Updates

  • Announcement: The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Carla Cesaroni is beginning a three-year term as Associate Dean in SGPS. Dr. Cesaroni, in addition to being a leading international authority on youth justice and a highly sought expert witness, is a professor and faculty member based in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities.

    Additionally, Dr. Jeremy Bradbury is continuing with an extended term as Associate Dean in SGPS. Dr. Bradbury’s compassion and advocacy for graduate students along with his experience in the portfolio of Associate Dean will continue to be an invaluable asset to our graduate community.

  • Reminder: The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is underway. The internal deadline for applications to the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) is Friday, July 28, 2023 (12 noon). Full details on the application requirements and process can be found on the SGPS website.

  • The 2023 Graduate Writing Boot Camp event was extremely successful and saw 19 graduate students work through their projects. By the end of the workshop, the group had written 87 pages, edited 115 pages, read 113 articles and participated in 47 individual consultations. This in-person event is hosted by The Student Learning Centre (SLC) and SGPS. 

    Congratulations to students on this great accomplishment. The SLC and SGPS  were excited to see the return of this in-person event and thank those who were involved in the planning and facilitation of the program.

Student Life

  • Varsity Student-Athlete Opportunity: Our women's lacrosse team is growing and we are looking to add more Ridgebacks to our team! Are you an elite and competitive athlete in another sport and interested in trying and excelling at lacrosse? Are you a former or current rep level lacrosse player? Have you played box, field or both? We would love to hear from you! Email the coaching staff to learn more at liane.chornobay@ontariotechu.ca.
  • The Employment Readiness Program, running Thursdays from June 29 to August 3, is a series of workshops designed to teach students practical job readiness skills and skills for navigating the workplace with success. Students who attend the workshop series will have access to additional one-on-one peer support with an Employment Peer Coach who can help address career-related concerns. Learn more and register.
  • The Career Centre has a variety of workshops that are designed to help students who are job searching, going to work for the first time, or entering a new workplace. Learn more and register for a workshop today!

  • The Career Centre and Devant have joined together to provide career supports for international students. Check out, and register for all the great workshops that are happening in July!

  • Recovery College is a collaboration between Ontario Tech University and Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. The two courses that will be held over the Spring/Summer semester are Let’s Act on It: Managing Stress and Wellness through Words: Book Club. To view the course descriptions and register, visit the mental health groups web page.

  • Could you use a bit of stretch-and-unwind at the end of each week? Yoga is an ancient and evidence-based practice that can help you to unwind your nervous system. Sessions will be held virtually through the spring/summer semester on Fridays from May 26 to August 18 from 1:15 to 2 p.m. To derive the greatest benefit from this practice, you will need a quiet space and a yoga mat. Register to attend!
