Presentation Skills – Thursday, November 18 from 10 to 11:15 a.m.

A clear and concise presenter, a visual presentation and engaging content are some of the keys to keeping your audience’s attention in a presentation. In this workshop, you will learn what makes a great presentation and what you can work on to develop your skills.

*This workshop is a requirement of the Professional Communication Certificate.

Intercultural Communication – Thursday, November 25 from 2 to 3:15 p.m.

As the world becomes more diverse, it will become inevitable that we will be working with people from other cultures. It’s important that we understand how to effectively communicate across cultures. Evoking global thinking and empathy in your communication style will make you a better team member, communicator, collaborator and global citizen.

• Are you looking to connect with your graduate community? Look no further! Join SGPS Community Connections on Monday, November 29 from 6 to 7 p.m. for a virtual Games Night in Gather Town. This is a casual event to unwind, relax and have fun! Save the date and watch out for details.
  
  
• An important reminder that the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) and the Canada Graduate Scholarship - Master's Program application deadline is quickly approaching. Deadline for submissions for both awards is December 1, 2021.
  
  
• Applications are now being accepted for the Ontario Women’s Health Scholars Awards Program. Awards are valued between $25,000 and $50,000. Visit our Graduate Student Awards page under 'other external awards' for more information.
  
  
• Applications are now being accepted for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship, valued at $50,000. Deadline for applications is December 21, 2021. For more information visit our Graduate Student Awards page under 'other external awards'.
  
  
• Applications are now being accepted for the Mackenzie King Scholarship valued between $11,000 and $12,500. Deadline for submissions is February 1, 2022. Visit our Graduate Student Awards page under 'other external awards' for more information.
  
  
• Applications are now being accepted for the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Scholarship, valued at $15,000. Deadline for submissions is January 10, 2022. Visit our Graduate Student Awards page under 'other external awards' for more information.

• Postdoctoral Fellows with a PhD in natural sciences or engineering may be eligible to apply for the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science fellowship. Visit their fellowship page for more information on deadlines and how to apply.
  
  
• Applications for the AMTD Waterloo Global Talent Postdoctoral Fellowship Program are open until November 18, 2021. The AMTD fellowship has an annual salary of $75,000 plus $7,500 engagement fund and more. Visit the University of Waterloo AMTD website for more information.

• Writing Workout is an online weekly writing group exclusively for graduate students. It will begin on September 9, no meeting on September 16 or 30, and run through December 17, 2021. Thursdays 9:30 a.m. to noon. Focus on your writing, revising, and reading. Come for part or all the time. Consultations are offered at other times. Pre-registration not required. • Career Centre virtual drop-in sessions happen on Wednesday’s from 1 to 3 p.m. and are organized for International Students to support their career development and employment journey. No appointment is needed. For more info and the meeting link visit the Student Life Portal.
  
  
• Student Mental Health Peer Mentors are undergraduate or graduate students at the university who listen and provide social and emotional support to students in a one-on-one setting. You can learn more about the program and the Peer Mentors for the 2021-2022 academic year and book an appointment online.
  
  
• International students can attend the Job Prep: Resume and cover letter writing workshop on November 23, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.. Students will learn how to update their existing resume so it reflects their accomplishments and is tailored to the job they are applying for. Registration is required.
  
  
• International students can attend the Job Prep: Job Search Strategies Workshop on November 29 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.. Students will learn how to navigate the pandemic work environment, and to succeed in an uncertain job market using a strategic job search action plan. Registration is required.
  
  
• #Let's Talk Sex Workshop Series. In response to student feedback provided to the Student Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Committee, Student Life has invited the AIDS Committee of Durham Region to deliver some workshops to provide education and destigmatize topics of sex and sexuality.
  
  
• The Virtual Career Carnival is being held online on Friday, November 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The Carnival provides interactive, fun and professional assistance to help prepare you for graduate employment, summer jobs and upcoming co-op/internship opportunities. • From Thursday, November 25 to Friday, December 10 students are invited to participate in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. We are hosting three virtual sessions that focus on what practical steps and actions we can take in addressing this issue to create an inclusive environment.
  
  
• Join the Wavemakers program to connect with critical employer networks set in virtual reality. Develop career networks with potential employers and students from across the country, and earn digital credentials. • The Career Centre is hosting the workshop: Dear Anxiety, we need to talk; relating in preferred ways to stress and anxiety in career decisions and interviews. The workshop will be held virtually on Monday, November 29, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Register on the Student Life Portal.

• TLC Workshops offer participants a variety of programs based on their teaching and learning interests and needs. The fully online program is open to teaching assistants, sessional/part-time, teaching-focused, and tenure-track faculty members who are eager to support student success through effective teaching.

• November is Financial Literacy Month and SAFA will be hosting external virtual workshops the week of November 22!
