Join us to hear tips and tricks to help with your scholarship and grant writing from one of Ontario Tech’s own Grants Officers.

  • Define Your Ambitions: Self-Assessment for Career Planning Tuesday, September 22 from 5 to 6 p.m.

This workshop is designed to help you self-reflect and better understand yourself in order to make career choices that are suitable for you. Learn how to connect what you know about yourself to your career goals and how to best achieve them.

  • Starting Off Strong: Digital Library Resources 101 Thursday, September 24 from 12 to 1 p.m.

Do you think the Library is just about print books and study carrels? Think again! The Library offers robust online and digital services that can help you succeed in your graduate studies. In this workshop you will learn all about accessing academic journal articles and books online with ease, the benefits of an online research consultation with your subject librarian and more!

  • Mental Resilience in an Online Environment: Balance and Burnout Tuesday, September 29 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

We all get stressed and distracted sometimes, especially in an online environment.  Students often find themselves in difficult situations.  Grounding/relaxation and de-escalation techniques can help you avoid burnout and strive for balance.

SGPS updates

  • Ontario Tech University postdoctoral fellow Joshua Wyman, PhD, will conduct critical forensic psychology research relating to the welfare of older adults, along with Lindsay Malloy, PhD, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH). Read story.

  • Are you defending your thesis in Summer 2020? Once you have successfully defended your thesis, you must formally submit a thesis package to SGPS. Check out the COVID-19 FAQs and thesis submission requirements on the SGPS website, or email gradthesis@ontariotechu.ca if you have any questions.

  • Students and supervisors are required to submit research progress reports at the end of each academic term. Research Progress Reports are a useful tool to connect with your supervisor and to document your research success/struggles and future goals. Download the form to begin documenting your progress.

  • Due to current remote-learning options, international students may be studying at Ontario Tech University while living outside of Canada. These students are eligible to opt-out of the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). Eligible students must complete the UHIP opt-out form by Tuesday, September 15. If this form is not completed by September 15, students will be responsible for the UHIP fee for the full year. More information is available on the UHIP website.

  • The Tri-Council (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR) offers agency-specific postdoctoral fellowship opportunities. As no internal competition is being held, applicants interested in applying for one of these fellowships should submit directly to the specific agency:

    • SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowships - Deadline: Wednesday, September 16, 2020. SSHRC fellowships support the most promising new Canadian scholars in the social sciences and humanities.
    • NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships - Deadline: Saturday, October 17, 2020. The NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) program provides support to a core of the most promising researchers with leading-edge scientific and research skills for Canadian industry, government and academic institutions. New this year: NSERC is removing the one-per-lifetime restriction on applications to the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) program. See eligibility requirements for more information.
    • CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowships - Deadline: TBC. CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowships provide support for highly qualified applicants in all areas of health research at the post-PhD degree or post-health professional degree stages.
  • The IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) seeks to inspire and support young women to pursue a career in nuclear science and technology, nuclear safety and security, or non-proliferation. Application deadline is October 11, 2020. Visit the IAEA website for more information.
